Stepwise carcinogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma in a nodule surrounded by hyperplastic and hypervascular liver tissue.

چکیده
S tepwise carcinogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the cirrhotic liver has been well described pathologically and radiologically. It is accompanied by sequential hemodynamic changes in the nodules. The dysplastic nodule (DN, adenomatous hyperplasia) and early HCC frequently include portal tract structures without arterial neovascularization. In contrast, advanced HCC is characterized by abundant arterial neovascularization. Therefore, late-stage hepatic nodules are enhanced at the arterial phase of various imagings and early-stage nodules are not. We describe a unique case in which we could observe stepwise carcinogenesis of HCC in a nodule surrounded with hyperplastic and hypervascular liver tissue.

A Case of Hypervascular Hyperplastic Nodules in a Patient with Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis
Most hypervascular nodules in a cirrhotic liver are hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs); however, some are benign hypervascular hyperplastic nodules. We report a case of benign hypervascular hyperplastic nodules in a 41-year-old male patient without hepatitis B or C virus infection, with a history of alcohol abuse, and diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm. The dynamic computerized tomography of the l...
متن کاملFunctional markers and growth behavior of preneoplastic hepatocytes.
Functional markers and growth behavior of abnormal hepatocytes at several stages of liver carcinogenesis were studied. Early lesions, i.e., hyperplastic foci and areas, did not accumulate iron in siderotic livers, had persistent glycogen stores, were not more agglutinable by concanavalin A, and were associated with alpha-fetoprotein secretion, but were not independent secretors of high amounts....
متن کاملHypervascular nodule in a fibrotic liver overloaded with iron: identification of a premalignant area with preserved liver architecture
BACKGROUND: The presence of a hypervascular nodule in a patient with cirrhosis is highly suggestive of a hepatocellular carcinoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 55 year old man with idiopathic refractory anaemia was addressed for the cure of a recently appeared 3.3 cm hypervascular liver nodule. The nodule was not visible on the resected fresh specimen, but a paler zone was seen after formalin fixation....
متن کاملEarly Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Its Concept, Definition and Diagnosis “Definition and Diagnosis of Early Hepatocellular Carcinoma” or “Early Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Definition and Diagnosis”
Early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can be described as “early” according to its pathological characteristics as well as its clinical characteristics. Taking the pathological approach first, the term “early” implies that a lesion is at a relatively early stage of carcinogenesis and prognosis is still good. Well-differentiated HCC is not necessarily early HCC. According to the clinical approach...
